The problem we kept running into
Most small business websites end at a contact form. A visitor with a real question (do you cover my area, what does this cost, how long does it take) fills in a box and waits. Some of them wait. Most of them leave and ask somebody else.
The obvious fix was a chatbot, and the obvious chatbot was worse than the form. A general-purpose AI will answer confidently about a service you don't offer at a price you never set, and the business only finds out when a customer arrives expecting it.
So onmsg starts from your content. You add your FAQs, service information and policies by pasting text, uploading PDF, DOCX, TXT, Markdown or CSV files, or importing the readable text of a public page. The AI agent answers from that. In Strict mode it checks for relevant knowledge first and returns a refusal message you wrote when it can't find any, rather than filling the silence.
What we actually ship
The visitor sees an embeddable chat widget you can style down to the launcher icon and the teaser image. Behind it sits a drag-and-drop flow builder with eleven step types, so the conversation can greet, branch by page or availability, collect details with a validated form, and escalate to a person. When it escalates, the conversation moves into a shared team inbox where it can be assigned, resolved, reopened, searched and annotated with private notes.
Around that: multi-site management for agencies and multi-brand operators, a site-scoped API for custom builds, response-time reporting, and your choice of the included platform AI or your own provider key.
How we talk about it
Concise, practical and human. We explain what you and your visitors will actually experience, and keep implementation detail in the developer documentation where it belongs. Where a feature has a limit, we state the limit on the page rather than in a footnote.
What you can rely on
- Free plan with no credit card required
- Add knowledge by paste, file upload (PDF/DOCX/TXT/Markdown/CSV) or single-page URL import
- One-line script snippet to embed the widget on any website
Three rules we don't bend
We describe controls, not miracles
Grounding modes reduce the chance of an invented answer and can refuse instead of guessing. That is a real, useful thing. It is not the same as a promise about every response, so we do not write it that way.
We say what a number measures
Response-time reports use retained history and elapsed UTC time. They are not business-hours calculations or contractual SLA reporting. Anywhere a metric has a boundary, we print the boundary.
Software should not replace the person
The AI handles the questions it can answer from your content. Everything else is meant to reach a human quickly, with the conversation history intact so nobody has to ask twice.
